Hi guys,

I keep finding the word 'Halfrauds' dispersed around the forums. I have to say, I have had nothing but good experience with Halfords. Fair enough, some things are overpriced, particularly fitting costs, but that is true with any store. Even Poundland has things like WD-40 (small can) for £1, whereas this can be had for 85p in the supermarkets. For those of us that cannot afford Snap-On tools, Halfords Professional (now called Advanced) tools are excellent - and I know from experience that the lifetime warranty is actually honoured.

What are you Halfords experiences?

Mike

the prices are often high, service in my local one is **** as it's run by spotty kids who are more interested in bikes than cars, so try asking for a more obscure part . however they do offers so some items, especially oil which can be had cheaper than most other places sometimes. and they're open on sundays too.

From my experience.
and from having a friend work there.
Lots of good products but over priced like hell.
I mean £4.99 for a microfibre cloth :O £1 from poundland
The staff are all my age and don't seem to know what they talk about. I remember asking for some aerosol paint being mixed up. The guy looked at me stupid.

The staff park in the disabled spots in my local one, need i say anymore about the intelligence that is located inside?

as with any shop there are bad and good stores, there are bad and good products. i use halfords for bits and peices when other places are shut - and with a trade card they're nice and cheap, i rate their Professional range of tools as well.

I only ever use halfords if I ever need to buy single sockets or spanners, but then that would only be a sunday or weeknight when my local [but further than halfords] small car accessories shop is closed.

Would never consider them for parts as I have a trade account with Andrew Page, and for general car fluids etc I would also use AP or where possible my local car accessories shop which is like car shops used to be, run by one fella so a great personal service - will even hire tools too with a simple cost of deposit which equals the tool value, and £2.50 per day hire, I once hired a tool for just 3 hours and didnt even charge me, COOL

Bedford Halfords is good! :)
Trade prices are good and Staff discount is handy, besides working there means you get to see the good deals and find bargains loool! plus most of the people there are well good to work withh :)

There is no doubting that places like Halfords are useful to nip in if you need something and can be good for sale items and cleaning stuff.

However, the reason they have the Halfrauds nickname is because they tend to be extorsionate on pretty much everything they sell.

Plus, bar a few exceptions (a few on here spring to mind), most of the staff are numpties that know far more about sales than cars. Alot are kids who know nothing about either.

Don't get me started on Motorword

I have to say that i have never had any problems with them, but ive only ever bough basic things from them, nothing too complex. Always found the staff knowledgeable and helpful. Plus i went to one at 7.30pm last night, what other car parts places are open that late, plus the girl who served me was seriously hot - BONUS :D

Most of the staff at my local Halfords are utter numpties (including my cousin).
However, there is one guy there who is very knowledgeable. His advice is always welcome as it usually consists of "I can order you one in mate, but if you go to such and such shop they'll have one in and it'll be loads cheaper".

Legend :worship:

Very useful at 5:55 on a Sunday when you need something.

Not very useful when that something is for a Panda and they don't have it (oil filters - "I don't think it has one", sump plugs, fascia adapters being three things they don't even know the existence of in my local one).

Halfords wanted £4.99 for some bog standard speaker terminals (4pk). I got 8 in local car shop for 85p. Says it all really. I only bother going there if there is a special offer on or I am desperate to get something (like my HU where halfords worked out cheaper due to the rediculous shipping charges we have to pay in Northern Ireland). Staff are very hit 'n miss. I always try to seek out the adult. Its like a creche in there sometimes (and i use 3 different branches depending on what i need, some seem to specialise!!)

I like the one in Elgin, there's hardly any staff and the security cameras are fake ...

*Puts on innocent act and whistles*

YUSS plus it smells nice.

Car cleaning range is pretty decent too.

Quite funny seeing a group of slicked back hair chavs walking into the sticker section though :worship:
