hi,

my engine has been making a grrring noise from the cambelt side of the engine.

i'd thought it was the plastic cover touching the water pump wheel, but having removed the cover the noise is still there

and also it seems to be getting worse which is making me nervous

anyway any ideas?

cheers

pete

Agree likley to be belt tensioner get you finger each side of it when IT'S NOT RUNING and check for movement if it has any it's passed its sell buy date may have even melted the grease plastic seal.

Not sure what grring would sound like... but the water pump on my 4x4 has more of a grumble that a whine (a continious whine, or squeal/screech on revving would more indicate the tensioner or alternator bearings) - and it's worse when the engine's cold. If you can get a long bar to it you'll hear the bearing rumbling by pressing it to your ear.
