i snapped my mates derailer clean off on his carrera so i bought him a nice new Shimano Tiagra off ebay was half the price than in halfords

d he again kept saying that there is no way that the bike frame would bend with the derailer.

which is why most high end bikes come with a replaceable "dropout " aka "hanger" as a rear mech in the wheel is a sure fire way to bend the dropout...
