Evening all.

Got a 2.4 JTD weekend - It has developed a funny screaching noise that sounds like metal on metal grinding. Happens at low speed when just touching the accelerator ( i.e. crawling in a traffic Jam )

Just had the belt changed so don't thing it is the problem. Could it be the breaks or clutch?

Any ideas? before the garage gets more or my hard earned.

Ta.

Hi
Are you sure its metal on metal and not a slipping aux belt?

Couple of things to try.
Brakes - when you get the squeal, apply gentle brake pressure and see if it goes away.
Clutch - in first gear and rolling, floor the throttle and see if you get any clutch slip.

Tried the brake pressure and it goes away.

Clutch seems fine. Would the aux tensioner been done during a belt change?

Not sure about metal on metal - but its an ear piercing screech and if I take the bonnet up I cannot hear anything from the belt.

Thanks

Check to see the disk ware... When you have a worn out disk and pads, the edge of the caliper can grind agains the lip on the disk making a grinding sound, skimms the disk quite well though!

EDIT: Only try the clutch thing on a good road surface during a dry day otherwise you'll just get a load of wheel spin!

I had a binding caliper on the front brakes which made an awful noise on my old citreon. if you take the wheel off on the side that is bad, check the pad thicknesses. If one is thick and the other thin, then your caliper could be jammed...
