Every alarm will go into the can bus system so it can talk to the car. Clifford to a direct upgrade that enables you to keep the standard fob. If you put on Remote start then all thatcham categories are removed and it makes it pointless having the alarm as it has a lower level of security than standard.

hey mat thanks for that but i dont want to keep the existing remote as the alarm then appears to have very little functions....also due to my work i would like to have remote start. I understand about the thatcham bits and my insurance company are quite happy for it to be fitted. i have spoken to a coupl of fitters in my area and they are either not keen to fit can bus alarms, they dont know about them or they quote £600 for fitting.........1 guy gave up after 2 days......:bang:......cheers.......e

My mate had remote starting on his car, he thought it was great until he left it in gear one day! wat a mess :p

hey guys thanks for your replies...:)..matt, what alarm do you have is it the 330x1...i can see it for about £380 but difficult trying to get it installed...i have the chance of a new avantguard 4 with intelistart for £120 without install but i would presume its no good for the gp then??

cheers guys..................e

Yeah thats what i have. You must be using crap installers if they cant install it in your car. I bought mine from GAP security and it was £300 fitted.

hey matt, its the clifford recommended installers.....from lanarkshire to glasgow....the glasgow folk told me their clifford engineers dont know how to install clifford can bus alarms...doh and the other guys (several of them) range from yeah you can have any clifford in your car to you need a can bus/digital alarm at between £500 - £600............so i'm gettin no where fast......lol:bang::bang:....they are trying to sell me the latest avantguard (5.5 i think) and they say it will work ???

although none of them have suggested the one you have so i might call them again tomorrow......

cheers..............e

hey matt, sorry should have said a personal thanks to you for setting the ball rolling, i didnt think gap would fit in scotland......cheers again (y)

T14086 mostly everyone i speak to say it must be a can bus alarm?? cause other systems will cause problems with the existing vehicle wiring...is this not correct then......... new clifford 330x1 alarm is costing £400 supply and fit.................e

why? locking is not on the CAN system (no door nodes) , wire to interior light circuit, battery & ignition lives, earth, bonnet/boot switch if required & thats it.Wouldn't bother with immobiliser wires (its got thatcham 2 immobiliser as standard)
