Oh well, as long as everyone gets to show off their fancy clothes, get pissed and bet money a few horses having their necks broken don't matter.

Yeah one got put down because of a fractured leg. Can't understand why they would destroy the horse for that, aye it's probably no good for racing anymore, but still perfectly good horse once healed up.

Horses can't stand not walking on thier legs etc, so that's why they put them down instead of trying to put thier legs etc back into place...

It's simple. Cost.

Repairing anything beyond a simple fracture for a horse will cost thousands, and it will not be upto riding again in it's lifetime. Yes they have fixation devices which means a horse can still stand and put it's weight on the damaged leg, but why would an owner bother when it's not going to make them any more money, will cost more money in the future to look after and it's losing the race has probably cost them money and upset their rich friends who have lost money because of the horse (or jockey).

Even when money's not involved, it's very, very uncommon for a vet to try and help a horse with a broken leg. This is because the chances of the fracture repairing itself in any way that is beneficial for the horse is very small. It's also an extremely painful process for said horse, too. Although I am not entirely convinced of this site's credentials, it does give a pretty good idea:
