I need to buy a new car as the company car has gone... so here's the dilemma.

The Bravo is currently sat in a barn doing nothing.... and looking into the cost of things it's going to be there for a little while.

Car is fine, so doesn't need any money spending on her but needs insurance, Tax and fuel.

Problem is -

Insurance is £500

Road Tax is £205

MOT due April - £50

So it cost us about £1000 a year including fuel just to come to BOO meets.....

But if I sell the car and add the £1000 it would cost to put the Bravo back on the road.... I could buy a better 2nd car, maybe an alfa or a Bravo 2 or an Abarth 500 :):)

Or keep it and buy a diesel fiesta??

Re: Got a dilemma - sell it or keep it??

surely the car plus the £1000 you're gonna have a maximum of about £2000 to play with, which isn't gonna be able to get you a bravo 2 or an abarth 500 :) aha

Andy... I need to buy a new car so I have a lump of money already... but if I sell the Bravo I have an extra £2000 to play with.

Thats the dilemma!!!

ahhh! makes much more sense now aha

i was gonna say, if you could find an abarth 500 for £2000 then i wanted to know your secret...

i personally think if you get rid of the bravo you'd regret it, i've only had mine a year, but i love it, and im really not looking forward to getting rid of it...

had to sorn mine today, havnt got 6 months worth to hand never mind 12 :(

Well my baby was Betty - a red JTD

I sold her to buy a Bravo 20v Turbo which was stupid quick!!

So quick I did something very silly and nearly killed myself, so I turned round, parked it up and sold it.

Since then I've been spoilt by brand new company cars....

I bought the yellow Bravo last year and spent a lot of money getting it mechanically perfect, as it was totally standard so one day classic... maybe.

Problem is, it's so old in technology, given a choice between the new golf and the bravo... we take the golf!

The Bravo give you the most smiles ever tho.. and it's a real joy to drive but the golf just does everything w/out having to think.

i'd say it's worth spending £1000 less on a new car and just keeping it, even if you don't tax mot or insure it...

As many mass-market new cars lose shedloads of money in depreciation, why not buy a less popular, but still decent modern car that's a few months-two years old for around 60% of it's new list price?

- and so enabling you to keep the mighty Bravo :)

I can think of a few examples that could fit the bill, lol.

cos i like nice cars and don't like depreciation.

The killer is the insurance.

Golf is £600 a year
Bravo £500
New car - £500 also i guess!

If the bravo insurance was lower, it wouldn't be such a problem..... hopefully when kate turns 25 having two cars in group 15 wont be such a problem!!

I don't want a proton!!! lol

sounds like u much prefer to be in a new car, so i would unfortunately say sell it.

from what i understand it seems the big reason u want to keep it is that because its mint and will one day be a classic - but these cars haven't died off just yet. I think it will be a VERY long time before it'll be a classic.

so my question is do u plan on keeping it for years and years to come? If not then put it up for sale, and if it doesnt sell for what its worth then keep it until one day it does.

205?

Hey, didnt you get a 205 diesel to do the cheap motoring bit?

Just an idea, no-one mentioned a particular make :)
Chose my car new over rival FIAT, Kia, Skoda, Hyundai, Chevy and Renault models and not because of the price, (they were all in the £10K-£13K range)

You can get most recent mass-market cars at favourable prices - whatever your prefered marque - if you know where to look.

Even the more 'popular-badged' models can be cheap, especialy if they are in a strange colour or unfancied spec.

The 205 stopped one very cold morning and has been in bits ever since!

The fuel pump shft snapped - and they are like rocking horse sh!t to replace.

Well the other option now is to sell the Golf and buy 2 cheaper cars with the money from it and keep the Bravo.

Or maybe sell the golf, buy kate a cheap car and use the left over money to geep the bravo on the road full time.... hmmmm
