lol f**king numpty's the whole lot of them. I work in the RAF in Civilian IT and there all numptys in Air Traf :tosser:. Come to mention it most people in the RAF are .
That's an interesting observation ChrisUK. There are a great many RAF (& ex-RAF) guys reading this forum (Including me). Neither the relatively small number of aircrew nor the necessary ENORMOUS number of engineers & support personnel or their families are able to enjoy the quality of life that you probably do (ie go home to your house & family at night) in these terrible times.

You should be ashamed of that comment. Where do you work for MOD - West Drayton?

You have not a clue as to how these guys have to live. I was an Electronic Warfare & Weapons Operator on Fast Jets (both front & rear seat - when my eyesight deteriorated with age!) for many years. Then I spent the last 5 years as a Computer Sytems Manager on the specialist Nuclear Weapons Delivery systems (SOMA). Then I left the RAF to manage the EU computer sytems in Bosnia, Serbia, Croatia & Albania! I think that you are just a lowly MOD Civil Servant with a grudge, as you are getting nowhere. What you are doing is getting the backs up of decent servicemen....

Pay some respect to the Service personnel who put their lives on the line every day in Iraq/Afghanistan (& the other theatres that this Government wishes to keep quiet - such as Columbia & Darfur).

Coming from a forces family I do agree with mike (for the first time ever)

there seems to be a certain resentment for the RAF (amongst other forces aswell)

But mike I think he was just trying to have a dig at his mate and everybody knows what a brilliant job the forces do

I didn't mean it the way you implied it. Unfortunately most of the people I encounter are the 'numptys', I.E the people who are in the force just to be lazy and get away with doing very little and get a fat pension out of it. Or then you get the officers that think there too posh to use a computer and have to be baby sited, when they are usually intelligent people and could pick it up very quickly. From my observations the Air force is very unbalanced, some people are working there arses to the bone while others are just sat waiting around doing very little.

Don't get me wrong I'm from a forces back ground as well and have great respect for the people that do their job and to the best of their ability's and these poor guys and gals that actually get deployed to these 's**t holes in afgan and iraq etc'. I'm considering getting a deployment out there as a MOD civilian to do 'my bit' I know its not much but every little helps. As for not getting anywhere I've been in the civil service for 6 months and gone from a E2 to D band so I don't have a 'grudge' I'm quite happy to serve the majority of the people I meet. Hope this has clarified my position maybe I shouldn't have used a generalisation and If I caused offence I apologise.

Thanks mate - but he has had a jibe at better people than he & will have to live with his comments & the lack of respect generated by them. Perhaps if he had to deal with a pretty nasty Mach 2 SAM (1450MPH) launched with the sole reason to kill him & his aircraft or some moronic raghead decided to target him with a RPG or 2" mortar bomb whilst he is trying to sleep, he might see how offensive his comments are & how ignorant he comes across. I can guarantee that in any of the aforesaid situations he would probably lose control of his bodily functions - as we all do when thinking that we are staring an immediate & horrible death in the face. That's life;)

At your age Chris - apology accepted. And I hope that RAF personnel who you might have to work for (RAF Regiment?) will read this & look after you:) .

Best wishes, Mike

Funny you should say that one of my collegues In my IT department is ex RAF Reg (y). He's great. Still works hard despite having to take morphene constantly for back and skeletal pain from being in the regiment.

If it makes you feel any better I shat myself 3 times over both Iraq (x2) & Bosnia (x1) when I had to take ENORMOUS 10+G evasive swerving action to avoid becoming a fireball from high velocity SAM's (Tornado F3). On one occasion it became a "Redout" (blood swells to the head & eyeballs). I had to deal with the mess in my own flightsuit, but the groundcrew had to deal with clearing my vomit from the cockpit. However, I put a barrel of beer on for them to say thankyou. Perhaps now you understand how lucky you are to be alive?(y)
