 well my car failed its MoT today

apparently acording to the sheet my "exhaust is louder than that of a standard seicento" can they fail me on this if it passes its emissions?

also my rear callipers are alegibly seezing and my front brake pipes excessivly coroded  i changed my disks ect last week and all looked well last week and i checked them just and all seems ok :bang:

also i cant get a free re-test because there saying my lights are to low ??????? how there set as high as they go and they are like that from the factory?

Re: God Damb MoT testers

sounds like you've been shafted....

extremely

go back and demand an explantion and get them to show you the faults in person.

wtf "louder than standard" it makes no difference how loud it is! lol

Re: God Damb MoT testers

i'd go back and ask them how the rear calipers are seizing seeing as though it has drums and brake cylinders on the rear.

Do you mean headlight aims are too low ? If you genuinely feel that you disagree with the decision of the mot tester than that is what the appeal process is for.

After failure, fees for re-examination vary according to the following circumstances:

If your vehicle is left with the Testing Station for repair and re-examination – NO FEE
If the vehicle is taken away from the Testing Station and returns for re-examination on other than one or more of the items listed below, then only the failed item (including any other items affected by the execution of the repair) needs to be examined by the MOT Tester, for which the Testing Station may charge (up to), half the full Test fee. Whilst this fee cannot be exceeded, the Tester may, at his or her discretion conduct a full re-inspection if at the Tester’s discretion it is deemed necessary.
NOTE: It should also be noted that should a vehicle be submitted for an MOT Test whilst still having an unexpired and valid MOT pass certificate, and fail the inspection, the original pass certificate remains legally valid until it expires. However, should any vehicle have developed faults which renders it un-roadworthy in legal terms, it would be unlawful to use it on the road irrespective of whether or not it has a current and valid MOT pass certificate.

I can't see how they can fail you for an exhaust being 'louder than standard'??
Exhaust volume is at the tester's discretion but it would have to be unbelievably loud to fail in my experience. My Sei has a Sportex cat back system with the centre silencer removed and replaced with a straight pipe and is really quite loud. It passed the MOT in August and the tester never mentioned it.
My other car is a modified XR2 with a Scorpion stainless system and is probably even louder than the Sei. It has passed every MOT whilst I've had it and not once has a tester ever mentioned the volume (and it's been done at different garages).
I think that the tester has been unfair and together with the brakes and lights issues, you might have a case for an appeal.

Re: God Damb MoT testers

Unforetunately, this is the way the MOT is going, Any parts that are significantly different to standard can, and increasingly, will be a fail.
As has been said, put the £50 down to experience, sort anything you can from that fail and get it tested somewhere else.
Ask to view the MOT and get the tester to show you any failure points.

Re: God Damb MoT testers

I think the silencers have to have the BS,EU,Homologen or whatever stamp on them to pass the MOT.?? or it's getting that way....

Glad to see them doing something about it.

Here it is, 65(2), page 121.

http://www.opsi.gov.uk/sr/sr1999/nisr_19990454_en.pdf

"Exhaust systems and silencers shall be maintained in good and
efficient working order and shall not after the date of manufacture be altered
so as to increase the noise made by the escape of exhaust gases."
