Hi guys and gals
I just had my clutch replaced which cost me €390 with labour so it was pretty cheap.
However I had the Austrian "AA" come out to check my car as the battery was flat and they said the Lichtmaschine" or generator needs replacing.
I posted a couple of years ago about my lights flickering when driving and especially when using the windows washers when driving the lights dim dramatically.
Ok so it it the generator, if that is the English term.
Can someone give me the part number please and or any dealer in the UK or Europe that can provide used or new parts?
All help will be appreciated. (y)

Thank you Sussexa, the alternator was the word I was looking for, been many years out of the English terms for me.
No belt slipping, this problem has compounded for a number of years now and now I know it is the alternator or generator in German.
Well it is a 2005 model and as stated in the heading it is a 1.9JTD 115PS MW. Is there any other info needed?

Great, thanks. But where would I find out how many amps?

If it hasn't fallen off, or faded, there may be a paper label stuck on the alternator showing it's amperage.

There are several different amperage alternators for the JTD depending on engine version and whether or not you have air conditioning, heated seats, electric heated seats, auxilliary heater or the electric PTC heater element fitted.

If you want to PM me your VIN, I can get the Fiat part number for your alternator, which you may be able to find an equivalent aftermarket alternator from.

Ok will check it out...once I have finished work tomorrow and then 2 days off :)

I'm in the same boat at the moment - my alternators making some funny noises! not sure on the part number for my particular vehicle though and I don't want to have to strip out the alternator just to get the number and have to put it back while the new one arrives. If I gave you the VIN, could you check for me too Davren? ePer seems to be breaking when I try go in to the Stilo section at the mo.

According to ePER and your VIN, the Fiat part number for your alternator is 46782213 (105 amp) of you don't have air conditioning, or 46809068 (120 amp) if you do have A/c.

Thanks Davren...I will PM you my VIN

For your VIN, ePER shows the same part numbers as Xen's above, so for your car with A/c the Fiat part number is 46809068 (120 amp).

Strangely, it also shows the option of a 90 amp alternator for the JTD 115 with A/c, but that is for cars built after 15th November 2005. Your car was built on 17th May 2005.

Also strange, ePER shows the 120 amp alternator for my 2003 Stilo JTD 115 MW with A/c, electric heated seats, electric PTC heater etc. but when I replaced it earlier this year, it was an original Fiat 105 amp fitted. I already had a new 120 amp, so fitted that.

The 120 amp is physically bigger than the 105 amp, so it won't go past the driveshaft. I was fitting a new driveshaft at the same time so it didn't matter, but to fit the 120 amp without removing the driveshaft, you can take the black plastic cover off the back of the alternator, then put the alternator above the driveshaft, then refit the cover.

Also, there's a steel spacer inside the aluminium mounting bracket on the engine. When removing the alternator mounting bolt, the spacer can fall out and get lost. If you don't know the spacer is supposed to be there, and you refit the bolt without it, the mounting bracket is likely to snap.

The long bolt shown in my photo above is not the original bolt. It's a spare bolt with the same diameter as the original that I used to hold the spacer in place. I didn't have enough hands to hold the weight of the alternator, and hold the spacer in place, and refit the mounting bolt at the same time. Pushing the mounting bolt through, pushed the spare bolt out, while leaving the spacer in it's exact position.

Someone on here posted that they had stuck the spacer in place with mastic or silicone sealant..... Sounds like a good idea.

Had it finally changed today. Two months of charging my battery in the house every day. Cost me €105 for the part which was difficult enough to find but got it through eBay in Germany and €144 to change it.
What surprised me the most was the old alternator was 105amp whereas it should have been 120amp. But all good now and thank you for your help Davren.
Btw had to loosen the driveshaft just to get the old one out. The special tool needed just to loosen the bolts costs €56 here.
