Would a 6 speed gear stick fit a five speed gear box & just use the 6th gear as reverse?? Or am i just being stupid!!!!

Its not the gearstick that makes It six speed, it's the gearbox. So by fitting a gearstick from a 6 geared car (presuming it has the same fitment which is unlikely) you wouldn't be changing anything on the way the original car works.
