Right, Ive found a gearbox for my 1242 convo..

Std 5 speed from a 1994 Punto 55 S. Looks like its been a victim ofr a proper shunt up front. There's no front bumper left and the transmission side engine mount has fallen apart, and is nearly hanging off...

The scrappy want £50 for it- its an arbitrary figure plucked from a breaker's head after a brief moment's consideration...so might not reflect its condition.

How can I test the box for full working prior to fitting it to a 1242 engine??

Ill think of something witty....just wait and see............wait I might not.

If you're getting a new gear box for the 1242 conversion why not go for the 6 speed punto box? :D From what I've read that's a straight swap too.

As for testing, I don't know sorry. But if the cars been in an accident I doubt the gear box will be damaged?

Well, I was thinking of getting that (6 speed), and still might, its just that this car's here, now and its cheap.

Any idea how much a gearbox weighs? Can it be lifted easily?? I won't have access to a hoist when taking it off- and I'm weedy![)]:D
