Gearbox Problems

i recantly bought and fitted a gearbox to a 1998 fiat brava 1.4 12v....after fitting the gear stick seems to be set to the left (in-between 1st and 2nd) and i cannot select 1st and 2nd gear...all the rest engage and move the car..........has anyone an idea???it definately came off the same way it went onif anyone got a picture of the way it should be without the battery tray (or a link for one) i would mightily appreciate it........thanks for taking the time to read this (and hopefully help).....happy days........ Gearbox problems

I have this problem!

My gearbox was in 3 pieces so had to replace in my 1997 1.4 12v Bravo.

Now it stickss in 1st and 2nd, really have to force it but seems fine once the car has been going for a bit and is warm..indicating lubricant problem. The garage that did it for me said they put in the same gearbox that was recommended but that maybe it needs a lighter gearbox oil (apparently old Ford Sierra's used to have the same problem).

sounds like a linkage issue to me, pop them off and make sure that no gear is selected on the box, lube up all the connecting points and re attach and see how you go from there
