Ive just had a look in EPC and that lists 75w85 synthetic GL4 - 2lt
Tolerance Data lists it as 75w90 GL5 - 1.98lt

Cheers yeah the stuff I have is gl5.. I could only find info for the multi jet and it requires gl4 so I'll go with that.
Cheers

:eek::eek:. Blimey. That's not a pothole, that's a cavern you hit. I've heard of people getting cracked alloys/blown tyres, but breaking a wishbone takes things to a new low. Are you going to take it up with the local authority?

I've looked in my handbook for gearbox oil and it says SAE 75W-80EP synthetic, to comply with API GL-5, MIL-L-2105 D LEV. That's a 2004 model. I used Tutela ZC 75 synthetic when I did mine (which is the named brand it gives in the 'book).

Yeah...snapped the bugger!...Right where it goes into the frontmost bushing.

I was tootling along doing MAX 35mph...and i didnt see it at all as it was under a bit of surface water... must have hit it square on...it was 6 inches deep.
Didnt know what was happening......car went all over the place when it broke.
Didnt blow out the tyre but it left a golf ball sized lump on the side of it so had that replaced(was a nice dunlop and all)...Wheel is fine thankfully.

Im not sure if its worth going to the council about it... I was in such a panic to get the car off the road i didnt even bother going through insurance...just got the nearest tow guy to pull it away as i couldnt budge the car an inch(wheel was sideways back against the arch) and there was a risk of an accident if i left it where it was too long.

Anyway got some castrol 75W/90 Gl4/Gl5 gearbox oil so i think thats well in spec.
Took exactly the 2 litres when it poured back out..
Took the opportunity to take off the gearbox side casing and clean up the selector thats often mentioned as getting fouled and causing 4th gear hassle...it was in good shape.
So thankfully no leaks...seems to be running well and theres no shakes in the transmission so driveshaft didnt suffer.

Only have to find a mud flap and the big long plastic trim that runs along the bottom of the car as they both got mangled.

Could have been worse... this isnt a million miles away... http://imgur.com/KhvtO

You should absolutely-no-question claim from the local council.
When I wrecked a wheel and two tyres hitting a small crater back in 2011, I was told that many councils don't bother maintaining the roads properly, because so few people claim for damages, it works out far cheaper for them to pay out on a handful of claims than it would to fix all the holes...tossers!

Tha guy I spoke to on the phone when requesting a claim form told me they had loads of money put aside that year, but they'd hardly paid any out due to the unusually mild winter.

I have another claim to put in now, my wife hit a hole last week and dinged the front-left wheel and tyre.

Sooner or later someone's going to get seriously hurt (or worse:mad:) because of the state of the roads.

What if you'd hit a kid on a bicycle because of what happened...

Cheers...ive reported the pothole and outlined the damage it caused to see if theres a claims protocaol...most importantly the pothole(s) are reported so hopefully ill prevent more incidents on that road.

Cheers for that diagram...the drain plug is in a tight spot i must say.

Also i had a good look @ the "fill" point on mine and i dont think theres a bung in that hole....it looks to me like it was an option in the casting to either bung it or not.(i tried a 14mm hex in it and it was just chewing the cast)

I filled from the "Level"

Replaced my other wish bone drop links and anti roll bar bushings last night...body sore this morn ;)
