hey all , hoping somebody could help me diagnose a gearbox noise...

I get a rumbling noise from the gearbox when pulling away or cruising at 1100>1300 rpm. The sound is very similar to a bad wheel bearing noise and seems to resonate through the car. It goes away when the clutch is released.

Any ideas (gearbox mount?) , or has my 100k mile gearbox had enough of this world?!
Cheers, Bill.

You need to clarify the middle paragraph.

e.g.

i) at 1200-1300 RPM you are running to slowly to draw torque from the engine.
ii) does the nose occur only when pulling away
ii) release you mean lift you foot off the clutch

How long have you had car.

How longing have you had this symptom.

When was the last time the gearbox had oil or was checked for oil?

Do you get the same symptoms in reverse.

You will get strange symptoms with worn engine and box mounts read the FAQ and guides next.

sounds like a lack of oil, mine sounds like that at the moment but it needs a new gearbox so im leaving it as it is.

my previous cinq made the same noise too when stationary in neutral till you pressed the clutch (again lack of oil but i did fill that one :) )

cheers
