Gearbox issues car related or bad rebuild?

Hi i have a grande punto jtd... original gear box went after 96k wasn't overly shocked replaced it with a recon with in 6 months it lost 6th contacted the supplier and they replaced it once again within 6 months i have lost 6th.... has anyone had anything like this before we know the boxes on these have issues but surely people are not replacing them every 6 months

Completely when we opened the box up 6th was smooth

I'm assuming you mean the gear teeth were worn away. This would suggest insufficient oil, as 6th is the last to get any with a splash lubricated box. Could also indicate a poor build if the shaft end-float was excessive, or the gears didn't match. Getting them too close together should be impossible, but bearing wear can cause such issues.

It had been installed 6 months before so bearings should be fine n loads of oil this has happened to 2 boxes in under a year no one can figure why
