Technical Gearbox breakdown

New member here in Hampshire. Decided to do some work on my gearbox (1500) and got a spare secondhand one I am going to use as a reference/for spares before I tackle the one on the car.

I've got it pretty much separated with all the bolts undone, fifth gear off etc.. but for the life of me I cannot get the bell housing to separate from the main casing - the Haynes manual says 'lift casing off' but it moves so far (0.5 cm or so) but seems to get snagged on the differential bits?


Am I being dumb andf does anyone have any tips.

Hi have you taken big circlips off? if not as you lever housing up you need to tap the end of both shafts down as they are tight fit in end bearings, don,t forget three bolts inside bellhousing lol
