I've had to remove the lever on top of the transmission (attached to the gear selector rod) but am encountering problems getting it back together.
Car is a fiat Brava 1.4sx 1998(S).
The transmission has a rectangular notch sticking out of it which the lever locates onto. The problem is that that the notch is currently at about 10/11 o'clock so that when I connect the lever, it forces the gearstick over to the drivers side. Whilst it feels like I can engage 1,2,3,4 I can't move it over to 5/R because it hits the edge of the plastic trim. Does anybody know what might be causing the problem?
You can see in the picture the difference between the angle of the notch and the lever (the gearstick is held in the neutral position).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
James.
