Another concern; Often finding it difficult to change gear, especially from first to second, and sometimes to third, and coming out of those gears. The only areas I can think would be slightly worn selectors, master cylinder or linkages? Anyone have any suggestions?

Could be the synchro going, mine has done 65k (thats cos it did 2200miles in the last ten days visiting uni's up and down country :-( ) and the synchro has almost gone on 2nd its sometimes a job to get it in, also a prob when going back down to 1st at lights etc, really notchy and nasty.

Thats exactly the problem! It doesnt like going into first whilst coasting to the lights, not that I put into first to early. Again, second gear, I have to give it a few attempts.
Ive read up on this problem, and many people have experienced this!! Strange. :bang:

Mines the same, sometimes hard to get into first. Also mine has a slight notch going into 3rd, and if im kaning it I always seems to lift my clutch too early and get a not so healthy sound. I've already had to replace the box as 3rd was well on its way out when I bought it :(

Well for one Fiat Gearboxes are **** anyway.

You will never get it into first over 10mph FACT!

A lot of Punto users have had this gearchange problem including myself. Changing to a semisynthetic or even a fully synthetic gearoil will make a big difference. This is because this oil is more fluid when it is cold, making gearchanges easier when you have just started a journey, and the car hasn't had a chance to warm up. Hope this helps.

Mines a 60s mk1 and it has this too. I thought i was the only one, now i know its a fiat thing im not so worried. Its not an indication that somethings going to get severly ****ed in the long run is it?

mines the same!! i have MK2 Vreg sporting and 1st to 2nd is bad! u have to change instantly into 2nd or it will crunch and u have to be gentle! its only 2nd gear thats doing it...its annoying but as its only that gear i dont wanna replace gearbox! how much would it be to fix this then....cant believe so many of us have same problem....gearbox must be crap!!

So would you recommend changing the gearbox oil to a different grade? It doesnt just do it when its cold either. I definatley think its the box though, strange we all this problem!!
