I had to remove the gear change linkage during my recent clutch overhaul. Everything has gone back together OK except that 5th gear seems to be misaligned. ie it no longer engages at the extreme north east corner of the gear movements, but about a cm to the left of this. I've looked at the linkage and can't see how to adjust it. Does anyone have any advice? Could I have damaged anything whilst manhandling the gearbox in and out of the car?

Sorry forgot to mention this is a 1.2 8v 2002 model
I really am baffled by this problem - there must be someone out there with a suggestion?

Can you select the gear fine still on the gearbox? Without using the gearstick?

Or get someone to try and put it in 5th gear while you check how it's engaging on the box

Hi There
I havn't tried actually selecting at the gearbox (I'll try that tomorrow), but it goes into gear from the gearstick easily, but from a slightly different position. I can see the position of the selector as it goes into 5th and the mechanism seems to plunge into the gearbox, but presumably not enough. Hope this makes sense
