From reading the forums across the board it would seem that replacing of the fuse box and ECU is rife across models in the UK. If you are confronted with this repair by a franchised dealership ask if they have checked the vehicle main earth lead. When I asked for the displaced fuse box and ECU to be LEFT IN THE CAR the repair suddenly became a replacement earth lead with a "strip and clean" of the fuse box. With the exception of fluids, friction parts and contaminated parts ALWAYS ASK FRANCHISED DEALERS TO LEAVE DISPLACED PARTS in the boot. Please make this a sticky in any models affected by this "problem". Thanks

Having spent many years in aftersales managing workshops and service departments I can assure you franchised dealers workshops don't save up used ECU's to con customers. I can't speak for non franchised dealers.

Who were the dealers involved - that sort of scam gives the manufacturer (illegal activity) the contractual right to terminate your franchise. Do you seriously believe any Tech/mechanic caught would still have a job - anywhere once word got out - I very much doubt it. Incorrect diagnosis is also a sacking as is quality failures - two I terminated one put a vehicle into the car park with one wheel bolt holding a back wheel on, another removed some cd's and "forgot" to put them back. Franchised dealers don't fk about and risk have the doors shut whatever you may think.
