General Fuel leak

I'm getting a strong smell of fuel eminating from around the petrol cap area (1997 Punto 60 s), but I'm unable to detect any visible leaks from the tank or surrounding fuel lines.

fuel return line? Don't know where it is situated, mostly short after the petrol cap.

That's not the return line, properly speaking (the return line re-enters right down at the tank) more a vent tube. Worth investigating, though. But they'll all tend to smell a little if you've filled to the max.

It turned out to be a leaking fuel filter. Replaced with a new one - happy days!
