Hi,
I hope somebody can help me. I have a Bravo 1.8 Hlx which i purchased recently and i seem to be only getting between 23-26mpg, is this normal.

I could understand if i was constantly putting my foot down at every opportunity but i am not.

I hope somebody out there has some possible answers, as the car is costing me a fortune.

Ps. Excellent Site.

1.2 SX Fuel Consumption

That does seen pretty low. My 1.2 gives 42mpg on average, as a way of comparison.

Cheers,

Mark.

22mpg!!!!!

Hi there!

I'm spending a fortune on petrol tooo! I get around 22mpg without putting my foot down! This is while driving in london. In the open road without much traffic I manage around 27 mpg!

If u find out that something is causing this kind of high comsumption, please let me know!

Good Luck

Simon

Fuel consumption

I would think that if you're not caning it everywhere that you have a problem with a sensor that is making it run rich - usually the temperature sender or the air flow meter. Get your local friendly Fiat dealer to charge you an arm and a leg to solve it!!!

PS. By way of a real, useful comparison (as opposed to a 1.2 - what was he on?), I get about 34mpg, which doesn't seem to vary too much whether I'm driving like my wife or Jenson Button!

Do I have to go to a Fiat dealer!???

My temperature gauge will go up to the half way mark when the car is stationary (in london traffic!)
But while the car is moving the temperature reading on the gauge will fall. Does this mean my thermostat needs changing?
How much will this cost? And do I have to go to a Fiat dealer? Can I go to my local garage???

Please help me cos its costing me a fortune to fill up!

Simon
happy driving to all!
Ps i just had a full BIG service and a cambelt & tensioner changed (at 53000 miles) at my local garage. But it hasn't improved fuel comsumotion! :(

You probably do

Your thermostat could be the cause of the problem but I would expect the temperature to remain normal after sitting in traffic for ages - if it falls when you speed up again I'm puzzled.

A faulty thermostat would explain poor consumption if your journeys are less than 10 or so miles. It's quite cheap to test - go to Halfords and get a new thermostat and replace it. If the problem remains I'm afraid it's a dealer job to test the sensors.

Good luck
