does anyone recommend the fuel system cleaners or products billed as engine cleaners you see in halfords and the like ie redex, wynns products etc are they any good, or a waste of time and money?

when i worked in halfords asked some guy who was buying nitrox if it was any good, he said it worked wonders, although he was wearing a burberry cap....

im interested to see what comes back about this too actually :p

Cinquecento Sporting,
and yes it is indeed Broom Yellow \o/

RedX, Wynns and STP all work, however they are budget additives and won't fully clean your engine.

Forte is very good if you can get your hands on it. I used Power Boost from EcoTek to clean my cylinders and valves and an STP injector cleaner.

Dave. :)

Marea 2.0 20v
FIATcentral window sticker, silver poppy coral, titanium tax disc.
Blue gaiters, Blue sidelights, Blue interior lights, Blue lacquer on engine, feeling blue ;)
Ecotek fitted, removed and waiting for warm weather
So much to do, so little time.... and Totally Skint!! :(

Instead of creating a new topic I might as well bring this one up.

Just got all my lubricants upgraded to full synth on my Cinque Sporting and it's running well.

Read some things about aditives for cleaning, lubricating and so on and shame on me because I still haven't figured out if they are worth the money.

I wanted to have some internal cleaning just to make sure everything is ok in the engine. Is it worth to use an injector cleaner? Or an engine cleaner? Will the injector cleaner also clean the engine?

Bottom line, is it worth doing anything with this kind of products?

Experienced user needed :D

I can only quote on when I work in a parts department at a Ford R.S /Motorsport main dealership when all the cars came in to be sevice ie: Cosworths (escort, sierras) & R.S turbos (escort, fiesta) we always put fully synthetic oils & fluids in ie: engine oil /brake fluids because they were recamended because the engine needed to be protected more because of very high tempretures in a turbo engine so the oil dont sludge up (that is one reason you should let your turbo car tick over after a long hard fast run before switcing off to let the oil settle because it can after time if you dont can go sticky on the the turbos bearing and snap it,so in them type of cars or any high peformance turbo car yes it is worth it as for normal run of the mill engines use what is recamended and try to buy the best quality as for addatives for fuel, octain boosters, and stuff there was survay done on T.V either TOP GEAR or FITH GEAR programes the test the did showed they made no difference what so ever the reason was that most modern fuels have enough addatives in them already, I can give you my exsperiance I tried some octain booster addative in my escort R.S turbo (I know it was upgraded to 185bhp but it was'nt the reasoson it did this because the our head mehcanic at work knew exactly what I had done when he took the head off my car) the addative caused it to burn out three exhaust valves, so it is up to you what you think.Sorry to go on a bit but I hope it helped you (y)
By the way I am a Fiat owner now so I am not a FORD owner slagging off FIATS :D

I raced on the ovals for 4 years, and used escorts and orions with the 1600cvh engine in. [ see www.eastwoodmotorsport.co.uk ]
Didnt have money for fancy engines, the spec of which had to remain standard anyway.
I used fuel additives the odd time, as well as octane booster, no difference whatsoever. I tried the super unleaded fuel, and its variants, but strangely regular unleaded worked the best!!
I ALWAYS used Wynns Supercharge in the oil, in my time racing [you dont get out of 2nd gear, so the engine is revving its nuts off at the end of the straight] I never had any engine problems ever - and the engine may have covered thousands and thousands of road mileage, the oil I used was simply Tesco's stuff!! now heres the thing - my competitors had many engine failures.

My mates who race, all use Wynns Supercharge, and they too have never had any engine fails.

food for thought eh :)

this has been asked time & time again, the short answer no they don't really work, well the octane doesn't work in fact i watched a program on telly not that long ago, they tried several products & one actually had the opposite effect:eek: injector cleaner may clean slightly but not to the same extent as getting them professionally cleaned nowhere near that......thing here is some are being seduced by clever advertising claiming brilliant results..funnily enough additives or questions about them are cropping up frequently at the moment.......I've been around cars for a very long time now one way or another & have seen a lot of changes, but one change i haven't seen is companies related to the vehicle sector trying to make more & more money out of mugs who don't have clue & easily persuaded to hand over their cash because it sounds good:eek: the sad thing is this post will eventually fall away & be forgotten about.:( then some time later up pops the same question again:eek: I'm no smart Alec i just don't like to see us petrol heads getting ripped off:eek: now go forward & do the sensible thing TELL YOUR MATES:D

Shell V power will clean your valves tried it when last few times i had the head off on my sei t and the forte stuff also works did make a noticeable difference in fuel economy. All you need to do is change the oil and filter more frequently to keep inside clean imo

please, im not you son.

i know removing the injectors is the way forward, but the additives do work.

Well they worked on a few shoguns in the local off roading club that had sticky injectors.
But then again maybe they just magicly cleared (just afer a load of additive stuff was added to the fuel)
