right... got my -30mm lowering springs today for my cinq. I put the back on first cuase i knew i could do it and it would be easy heh... which it was. Took me about 10mins to do each.

then i tried to do the front but didnt even get as far as the second point in haynes... I cant undo the bolt at the top of the strut no matter what i try. the top half of the strut just spins with the bolt. now, if this is anything like the Uno suspention, when I take the strut off I will need to undo this bolt to get the spring off, sooo... i didnt even bother to take it off as i wouldnt be able to undo the bolt.

Anyway, I dunno what to do now. ive got the rear lowered 30mm (and looking good) but the front is still way up in the air and it looks daft and might affect the handling in strange ways.

How can i get this bolt undone??? Anyone near london wanna have a go? :p

Do not, under any circumastances, try to undo the big centre bolt with the strut still on the car. Remove strut, place in vice, and apply spring compressors. There will be, either, a squared off top to the damper rod to which a small, usually 6mm spanner can be attached, or an allan key end. If all else fails, mole grips with the jaws wrapped in rubber (oh kinky) can be carefully applied to the very top of the rod.

says in hanyes to loosen the nut whilst the car is still on the ground. There is no squared off top or an allan key end.

as for placing in a vice... where do you clamp the vice? if you clamp it around th main body of the strut then the top part will just spin when u try to turn the nut. you cant clamp it onto the top part because the spring is in the way and you cant compress th spring enough to allow room to clamp the top part.

I used a pair of stillsons to grip the plate with the 2 notches in just under the nut, but ideally you should have a C spanner to grip it. Loosen it 1/2 turn or so on the car and no further. Only take it off when the spring is compressed with your spring compressor.

Shafts on mine are D shaped, this plate locates on the flat and prevents the shaft turning.

Place the flats of the big disc in the vice, then loosen, but not remove the nut. Only remove the nut once the spring compressors are firmly in place.

If you got the right tools its a breeze. Done my f + r springs in about 3+1/2hrs last weekend, and that was without a rachet! Had to use spanners coz it broke on the 1st nut! :D

Cinquecento............Its not the size its how you use it!

good man. I'll probably be lowering mine by 30mm in a few months time and a picture guide would be excellent. cheers,
