After my MOT where they passed it & said the front shock has a slight leak I've had a look at it by lifting the rubber and it is all wet, but on the bounce test it springs straight back. The garage advised it will last another 5-10k.

How much should one of the fast fit places eg ATS, etc charge for 2 front shocks fitted...total cost?

Also how long does it take to do them & is it simple or are there loads of potential things they can cock up?

Cheers

Dont go to the fast fit places they WILL cause more harm than good, phone around smaller garages and get some prices it is a straight forward job to do for them, i would be looking to charge 2hrs labour plus parts so you could call a couple of motor factors and get prices (not halfords) this will give you some idea and do phone the dealer as some parts a silly low you may be surprised .........But be aware any garage may find other work whilst around the front suspension ie brakes,cv boots failed but there are some good small garages out there............Ned

two from scrappy last bout 5-10 k again as the oe dampers are poor on punto so invest in some koni's if cant afford then new oe ones round £50 a piece and fit them yourself it ant hard i did all mine in round 2hrs

Do you need special tools to self fit?

So small garage £100 Labour max & £50 parts? £150 to £200 max then?

Cheers

It's just four bolts that secure the strut to the car. Just be careful that the exposed bits of the top mounting threads are clean or you may damage the strut top mount. It's probably a good idea to buy new bolts for where the bottom of the strut bolts to the hub, they can seize in place sometimes.
