Technical Front drivers seat belt

A year ago I removed the drivers seat belt from my son's 2002 multipla which functioned fine. I want to fit it on mine but I cant pull the belt out more than about a centimetre. Is there a way to release the ratchet? Has anyone dismantled the mechanism on one?

Think you just need to replicate the position the belt would be in when fitted to the vehicle and be patient, eventually it will reel out without hitting stop..
