should I be able to remove both caliper pins easily?, I cant seem to pull the lower one out from the caliper bracket, pushing it in was just as difficult

didnt take a pic

there is a slight drag on the brake so will take part and have another look

if they should be both really free to twist and plunge in and out then there is a problem

info needed, will proceed tomorrow.

Yes the slide pins should be easily removable with just a small pull and should push in/out and spin around by hand

If they are really bar they could be sized in place which will mean new pinsand possibly new carriers bracket's for the pin to go into

Guides section anyone? Example: https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto-guides/264329-front-disc-change-2.html?p=4332767
If it's the Bosch system, bottom pin is probably rusted and seized outside and inside (under) the rubber sleeve (attached picture in the Guide). Yes, it will be very hard to remove. But you can still reuse it probably (with proper care, cleaning and lubrication).

Remember, brakes are not "maintenance free" items as most think. Disc/drum brakes should be disassembled, cleaned, lubed and put back together every 3-5 years or so (not only when they are worn or faulty) - yes, I know, almost no one does that and most will ridicule the idea.
Regular, brake fluid change is also neglected too often.

For me discs should be done at least every other year ideally every year

Drums on the other hand need little care for many years being fairly we'll selaed

Depends on your driving location and style, I guess. I'm still running with ORIGINAL discs, drums and pads from 2008, and they still pass the yearly government inspection just fine :) But I've always been an active predictive driving proponent and engine brake user. Plus the car is mostly driven on the highway.

I don't mean change the discs
But strip clean and relube them

done them today, it was mainly the right side that was dragging

it took a bit of wiggling to get it out, I bolted an arm to it for leverage to pull it out as it was rather firm, here is the lower pin with my makeshift arm still attached, it has been cleaned up slightly in this pic but done better later, it was very gummed up with old grease, its now performing as it should, top pin was perfect, left side was better but I greased them up anyway so they were all equal.
