Hello good morning good evening.

From Switzerland here. Just bought a Fiat 500e La Prima 2021 (in service in 12.2020). After 4 years with Tesla, I had no choice mainly because of budget issue to give up on Tesla, and I was looking for a microcar instead (yeah, I know.... sounds weird but the plan it to get a van later aside a small car).

I've been searching for days what would be the best option for a compact car, not too expensive. The criterion where: 150km autonomy in all situations, room for my dog, security equipment (airbags, ABS, etc...), and energy label A (swiss confedation one).

The final choice was either a Toyota iQ from 2010, or a Fiat 500e La Prima. I hesitated a lot, but the idea to go back to gas after all these years in electric driving was not really appealing.

One thing that bothers me when people talk about gas cars vs EVs price, they only look at acquisition price. I make the calculation and this is my conclusion:

Toyota iQ 2010 used: 10'000CHF. Charges of gas and operation expenses for 100'000km: about 10'000CHF as well
Fiat 500e La Prima: used: 17'900CHF. Charges for electricity (mainly home) plus operations expenses: about 3000CHF. Plus, hopefully a better value at reselling given the Toyota had already quite a lot of km on counter.

Anyway. That's how I signed for 500e. That said, now I dig into Fiat app, uconnect, and some other stuff, and .... I just hope I won't regret it ! Coming from Tesla, I'm shocked that I will have to pay for a subscription for remote commands ! What a joke !

I will take delivery of the car on friday. Looking forward to dig into the features like the 360 view ?! Didn't see it yet anywhere ....

I plan to remove the back seat (not sure yet) to make it a kind of cargo 500e (more space for my dog) as I don't need the back seat. And I also plan to add the hitch for my backrack, which I will most probably do at Nordauto in France (750€) as the fiat dealer asks for 1400CHF to install it ...

Please, tell me I made a good choice 🤣

Hopefully. As per Elon Musk, well, I think the fact he's highly visible makes it worse, but the whole industry is ass. The whole economy. The whole politics. Left, right, center. We are in a very bad shape and the inertia we have won't allow for any good change in a future. Whatever the opinions. Opinions and beliefs about the Titanic were that it was safe and unsinkable, until it was at the bottom of the ocean. Until the very last second, they had belief.

So.

There are three main reasons I give up on Tesla:
  • Operational Cost + leasing: Can't afford it anymore
  • False hope: I've been expected FSD (or at least Enhanced autopilot) bug fixes and improvement for the last two years and nothing happened. They are 100% focused on developing the new FSD in US which kick asses, but they gave up entirely on the older version we have in Europe
  • They push OTA with UX (user experience) impact without informing and explaining to customers: Last one was: They drastically altered the 12V outlets behavior to limit the power without any nottice, just like that, making thousands of 12V fridges and devices as useful as bricks
I'm looking forward to discover the 500e. I know it will require a time for adaptation, but hey... sometimes, there are choices to make.

Thank you for reassuring me :)

Last night reading the initial post I was thinking if I haven't read somewhere about the tow hooks in the electric cars...

That might interest you then:

I answered to that thread already 😊

Oooh boy !!! I was so blinded by Tesla that I had no idea other manufacturers did also evolve... Just got my 500e 2021 this afternoon. 5 minutes from dealer to home. Not much. But I'm thrilled and surprised.

Sunday, I'm driving above 400km with it (picking up someone at ZH Airport). It will be a great inauguration and test.

Still waiting for Fiat to enable the remote control from the App though. The ticket is open and the documents have been sent.

Looking forward to test, and to play around with my Home Assistant integration

Ho, and ... Carplay !!! Tesla always refused to implement Carplay !!! Why ?!?!? This is soooo confortable and awesome.

So... I was a bit scared to migrate from Tesla Model Y to Fiat 500e. I'm deeply reassured so far.

Work in progress. Fiat 500e remote on Home Assistant

Unfortunately, it requires some work. Uconnect custom integration, MQTT integration, and fiatchamp extension (easy on supervised HA, a bit more work on Standalone).

I'll try to make a tutorial when I finished the work and I'm happy and confident all works as expected.

We ALL think(and hope) that our choices are good at the time! 🤔 And its time that usually answers that question as well!- the clocks ticking! let us know in the future how things pan-out for (y)you!.
