Scroll down to questions and answers and look at question 3 for all those unlucky people whose tax went down and they bought a disc just before the budget!

it may only be small money, but at the end of the day its beer tokens!

thank god it doesn't affect the volvo, overwise I'd be paying circa £500 per annum based on the stink and emissions it kicks out!!!!

Interesting. My car had 12 months of tax paid for by the dealer. As it's only £50 tax now, I might do this....

Don't think I'll bother... I've only a couple of months left on my tax disc. Can't be bothered with all that paperwork for a return of about £4.

Your car needs to be registered after 2001 to get any benefit.
Also, because you only get a refund for any whole months remaining, best thing to do is to get a refund at the end of a month, and buy a new tax disk at the start of the next month. Obviously you can't keep the car on a public road in this time, but otherwise you'd be paying for the same month twice.
