When I first fire up my Punto HGT, when it's iIdling before I go anywhere, the engine revs up and down for a while. This lasts for 20 seconds approx. and then the revs level out.
Is this mean to to happen or it is it a problem I should have looked at?
anyone have a simlar thing?

i'm thinking airflow sensor.

Met Cognac 99 Brava 100 HSX, what do you want? cupholders? open door warning light? grow up!

not really, but i'd prefer it not to do it in the first place!

on the other car (a new shape clio), the revs rise and fall quickly whilst the engine is cold. this is the auto choke. it only does it for a minute when first started when cold. then goes back to normal idle. on my mk1 punto, the revs rise above the normal for a minute then fall back down when warm. if your symtoms are the choke, then it is perfectly fine. i am having a guess as yours is a newer car than mine, as i dont have one.

mine does that and sometimes when its sat in trafic, the garage has had a look at it today and couldnt find anything, they its got to go back again so they can have another look at whats causing it, as its not ment to happen.

punto doesn't have an autochoke as it's fuel injection

I've just posted a similar problem...

I have a strange problem with my 54-reg barchetta when starting from cold.

The engine revs by itself from about 1800RPM dropping almost to the stall,
and continues for a couple of minutes or until its been driven half a mile.
Neither the main dealer nor an independent garage can diagnose a problem,
but it has been recently serviced and just had the throttle body replaced.

Did anyone here manage to find and fix the problem?

Thanks,
Richard

You have to clean the throttle body out ( it'll be full of oiley gunk) common problem on hgt's. I don't know if its the same for a 75?
