Technical fitting water temp guage

right, i bought a water temp 2day cuz i was bored (day off work). i wired it all up and needed somewhere put the sendor, does ne1 know where i can put it or is there already 1 on which i can wire the guage up2? i droped it into the header tank but the needle didnt move, then i put it on my manifold and it moved!! is this cuz it needs 2 be earthed?? if so could i run a wire from the sendor 2the body and put the sendor in the header tank with the wires coming through a gromit on the top of the tank?? would it work?

No go with the header tank, that needs to run at a high-ish pressure so don't go drilling it. If you've got an SPI sei, take the overheating switch out of the back of the head and put it in there.

yeah its spi, it that the 1 with just 1 wire coming out, looks like a sendor itself?

yep, down the back of the head somewhere near the oil filler cap. You're spot on with the earthing bit too.

when i take the switch out will loads of water come out or what?? how tight do i need put the sendor in?

you may end up with water leaking from it when u remove it, yes..

make sure the expansion cap is on tight, and the bleed valves are shut. this will minimise water loss. then just top up and bleed the system once you've finished

I'd loosen then refit the bottle cap first to relieve any pressure. Don't go mad tightening it up, just 'normal tight' if you follow.

the sendor is diff size than the switch, where can i get an adaptor from??
