Technical Fitting new seat belt

The drivers seat belt doesn't retract back very good and usually ends up flopping out the door when I get out of the car. It also seems to always end up twisted as well. I've tried pulling it all out and feeding it back in, cleaning it etc but makes no difference.

I'm thinking about sourcing a replacement belt off Ebay or a scrappy, Just wondering how easy it is to replace or if I'm better off getting a garage to do it?

The bottom anchor point is easy to get to
The hidden one is behind trim which needs popping out to gain access

Tbh I never removed the belt
But ensure its torqued in correctly to ensure a secure fit

i've been led to believe that this doesn't require a new seat belt just a little soap and water

basically the seat belt in a car is never cleaned but for years picks up dirt grease and oils from the hands skin and clothing of drivers, this builds up in the fibres of the belt and gets deposited on the plastic loop at the top of the door pillar over time the build up of this dirt makes the loop and belt stick and bind so the belt doesn't retract properly.

so i have been told but as yet haven't tried, cleaning the belt with warm soapy water and then the loop with soapy water or if very bad even a rub over with some fine wet and dry paper, gets rid of the dirt and oils and will allow the belt to retract normally.

its worth a go and might save you a few £££ on a new belt

good shout, but is punto mk2 a /2b. what airbag setup ?

as you will know- mk2b has pretensioner built into seat belt, so no good cleaning these
damp wouidnt do it any good,

mk2a sporting has crash sensor near seatbelt too,

The pretentioner is on the reel not the actual belt, manufactures do advise you clean your seat belts, you the water won't get near the pretentioner

Crash sensors are in the Sill not near the belt shouldn't make difference

in order for the belt to dry and be safe you would need to leave it extended and not reel back in, so no water should get near any of these things anyway.

pulled one to bits today this one has crash sensor near seat belt real, small black box sits in recess just behind seat belt, iwill take pics tomoz if you dont beleive,

ifind silicone spray does the job,

not picking bones here by the way iknow you know your stuff on airbags,
but these puntos all differ,

It's a 2002 MK2 Sporting. I will try cleaning the loop at the top.

Mine did the same, its just old age,

get some cheapo flash Dash spray, quid shops or asda or tesco sometimes has this in,

pull seat belt all the way out and spray it with flash dash, make sure windows and doors open or you will be caughing,

spray it with that and wipe it over with old rag, then let it slide back in,

(or get some silicone spray,)

also check edges of seat belt, for condition,
these can be M.o.T failiure so always best to check, if bad buy another one from scrap yard,

ionly have MK2B ones left in spares box, or iwouid of offerd you one,
