Its finally done , got APEX springs on and it handles even better.
Got some tips for anyone fitting lowering springs though:
1) Buy 4 spare lower strut bolts and nuts cos the originals will most probably be rusted and will be damaged by the time you get the struts out.
2) If the 17mm bolt heads, from the above mentioned bolts get rounded from the immense pressure needed to remove the nuts (mine did), a similar sized socket (11/16 I think) can be hammered on.
3) It is easier to loosen the strut top nut (in the engine bay) when the car is on the ground. If the damper piston starts spinning with the nut, wrap a rag on the piston in the wheel arch and very carefully attach some mole grips to hold it.
4) Make sure you look properly at the way the springs should be seated on the cups and the way the top cup assembles back on to the front struts, there are indentations for were the spring ends should sit.
5) The same poit is valid for the rear spings, there are indentations on the trailing arms and the rubber upper mounts.
6) Finally, after you have fitted the two front springs and/or the two rears check to make sure the car is level. If not this could be due ot an uncorrectly seated spring (like one on my rears).

Hope this helps,

Feel free to ask any questions.

Was the wife's but its mine now!!

Well it wasn't actually that complicated, if you got a a haynes manual and you can get hold of spring clamps. The main problems are rusty bolts and you just need to take your time and check that you doing things right.

Cheers for that, Im wanting to get some lowering springs and didnt want to pay a garage to fit them, this has helped a lot.

This mod is really worth doing isnt it.. its something i want to get done.. but dont have a garage at this house and the weather is hardly friendly.

Its going to have to wait till i find a garage i can rent to tinker with my cinq in

Bloody hell! well cheap!! i'll give you 8 if you could have a look at my engine too? i'll need to get springs first of course! Might have to make a call to barclaycard now to see if it'll fit the purchase of the springs

I've got the APEX springs and they reckon the drop is 40mm. Seems ok to me but I did shorten the rear bump stops.
Had to fit the spring on the drive mind you.

sweet! theres a place in peterlee does them for £69 40mm drop. What would be a sensible drop for a sporting on standard lloys? would 40mm be too much?

40mm is the most I'd recommend for a sporting. Any lower and you literally run out of suspension travel and bottom it out a lot when pressing on. You can go lower but need to be aware of the downsides - like deep seated fear of certain speedbumps.B) and inability to park 2 up 2 down on kerbs without dragging your sump along it.B)

This is mine, and IMHO too low. Just had another looksee underneath, and I think I'm actually getting spring crush over big bumps, not just hitting the stopsB)[:0][V]
