Technical First gear is missing

Can anyone help.
fiat 850 (1973) first gear is gone. Second, third, fourth and reverse gears shift beautifully. (the car has not been driven for 20 years)

when you say gone, fo you have the gear lever the same distance forward as you do in third or will it not select the gear.

are you saying it does go as far forward, have you run the car or are you sitting in a garage were the car has sat for 20 years trying to select the gears as No oil has been lubricating it for 20 years.
