My twin air 4x4 now has over 11,000 km on the clock and it's started delivering over 50 mpg - 5.4 litres/100km in fact (though the lower mpg before this could have something to do with my rather spirited driving).

Now I wonder how you managed to achieve that? :chin:

Ah, I know...

I'm picking up my TA Cross later this week, and PXing my beloved DS3 (1.6 turbo, 150hp, 0-60 in 7.1 secs) which the trip computer says has averaged 43+mpg over the last 6k miles, during which time it has not been driven gently! I'll be seriously p*ssed off if the Cross can't at least match that.

My TA Cross has averaged 49mpg over the first 5000 miles. I'm optimistic this will improve a little over the next 5000 miles.

I'm lucky in that my journeys don't include any town/city driving and any single journey is rarely less than 25 miles. I have however used it off road, on two journeys from Norfolk to the Peak District, one to North Wales and one to Manchester. Overall I'm pleased with the economy.

It might have to do with using different brand of fuel? It would be great to mention the name of fuel while you tell your MPG figure...

Nearly 6,000 miles now in the Cross, averaging 37mpg but that does include a twice daily dash across city centre Manchester. Longer journeys and a 50mph average have seen up to a 62mpg average.

Fitted Thule wing bars now so wondering what effect that will have, can't tell if it has made any effect on the motion lotion so far, certainly no more wind noise which is a pleasant surprise. Still loving this car, bar singing re brakes which can wait till the 9k check up absolutely zero faults too.

Car now on 1900 miles so well run in......

From the gear ratios info I posted here https://www.fiatforum.com/panda-iii/423573-panda-4x4-mtj-ta.html?p=4060806, you will see that sixth gear on the 4x4 TA is lower than fifth gear on the 2WD TwinAir (4x4 1000rpm=20.8mph, 2WD 1000rpm = 23.1mph) The 4x4 TA is also 75kg heavier. It is also interesting that even the 2WD TwinAir has a lower top gear than the 4x4 MultiJet version (where 1000rpm=24.9mph in top, fifth, gear). This seems to have been overlooked by the motoring press, all of whom suggest that the fact the TA 4x4 has six gears makes for more relaxed cruising.

Buzz is nearly at 6000m now and average consumption is 37mpg. Use of sixth gear either makes no difference to consumption or makes it worse. (n)

Not very impressive but still loving the car overall. (y)

best MPG appears to be at 2 to 2.5 thousand RPM,

changing down can make the figures better..

do you like the "character" of the TA though..??;)
