Fiat's are SLOW

Fiat's are SLOW

Fiat hasnt made a hot hatch since the coupe, and that wasnt even a hatch

Why dont they have anything that matches the 0-60 times of ...

FIAT are developing a new fast two-seater based on their old F104S platform. Currently codenamed the FIAT Scherzo it will be powered by a development of the Alfa J79 engine – that also powered the original platform in the 1960s.

Head of the design team is believed to be Dr Pesce d’Aprile and it’s been suggested that the prototype was so fast in trials that the team are concerned that it will be too fast for some markets. A limited production run of some 250 is planned.

FIAT continue to denign the existence of the project – but it’s reasonably well known they’ve been looking to develop a new retro design, following-on from the success of the retro Nuova 500.

yeah,i agree completely, fits are very slow.
i have a mk 2 punto.1.2 8 valve,slow as anything.
fiat have started to go down the right route by using turbos on their small engines,1.4,but thats the problem, the 1.4 is too slow anyway, even with the turbo.
they need to start developing 1.8 to 2.o litre and use the turbo with it.
Alfa are using the 1747cc engine with turbo, producing 200 bhp.
Fiat need to learn from this and produce a much better engine outputting
around 240 bhp, maybe going back tothe 5 cyclinder or maybe 6 cyclinder units
with turbos.
I would like to see a new coupe with rear wheel drive 250 to 260 hp,lets get fiat back to the fun days again, sick of these CRAP 1.2 PATHETIC engines,
italy is the country of super cars,so lets see them.
The next punto should have a nice 1.6 litre turbo engine in the mainstream, and not badge it as an evo and charge 19000 euro.a 1.6 turbo basic punto should sell in uk for 12000 euro.:slayer:

Fiat are quite proud of having the lowest CO2 emissions across the range of any car manufacturer. I don't think they are going to ruin this with a 2.0 turbo.

If you want fast get an Alfa Gulietta cloverleaf, or a Masserati Grandturismo.

Some people are clueless, Fiats are not in the market for 200hp+, they are cheap to run, tax, insure and fun to drive.

And to the person moaning about their 1.2 being slow and "pathetic", what the hell do you expect?!

:yeahthat:

As far as 1.2's go they are very good engines! 65bhp from a 1.2 8v is very impressive especially given the age of the thing .

And there was me thinking we were in a recession - you want fast? with fuel prices hovering around the £1.35 / litre mark & sure to increase at least monthly, how can you possibly justify wasting such a valuable resource?
Just because you can afford it really is no justification for using it in such a wasteful manner - especially as supplies are due to run out within our lifetime. So you can afford to waste money & fuel now - but what happens in 10 - 15 years time?
Manufacturers are concentrating their efforts more on economy, safety and luxury.

Oh my. There isnt even an emoticon to justify that facepalm...

  • Fiat owns Alfa Romeo
  • Fiat has the twin turbo diesel 1.9, with 188bhp on tap (or 177 for Saab)
  • Fiat havnt made a rwd Fiat since the X1/9 and even then it was mid engined so not conventional rwd
  • Fiats main selling point these days is "The most economical cars on the road"
  • Theres a chap in Kildare who had a 250bhp 1.2 8v Punto that has no blower of any kind (even if it revs to 10k rpm)
  • With the price of petrol here, why the flute would you want to drive like a looney tune?
  • We pay that much for a new car because of that useless vrt

You want crap and unreliable 1.2? Try a 44bhp corsa 1.2, the most gutless, weedy, unreliable, useless, droning, smelly, pathetic excuse of a motor vehicle and engine I have ever driven (y)
