Hi all, i have 2000 fiat punto 1.2 8 valve with no cam sensor, and have changed the engine for 52 plate engine that had a cam sensor fitted, the car now will not start, can anybody help me please??
A Non Cam Sensor engine can be replaced with a Cam engine
However the Original ECU from the car HAS TO BE USED
not the one that might have come with the car tho
Never changed the ecu, and the keycode light comes on with ign then goes out.. No spark.. All ancillaries were working fine and replaced with doner engine. The original engine did run but big ends had gone. thanks
Check the crank sensor (bottom sensor near the alternator pully), it could be damaged or could be too far away from the toothed wheel to pick up the signal.
Just read this, and I got muddled with the details (but hey thats no surprise ).
The car's own ECU should work fine as its is already linked with its body computer, immobiliser, etc. The engine's (donor) ECU will not work in the car.
The cam sensor can be ignored.
You could use the donor ECU but you would also need the remaining donor electronics and all the stuff they expect to see from the donor car. Its much easier to keep the car's electronics as they are.
when you turn ignition to position 2 can you hear the pump priming the system?
if not find out why ,check relay under bonnet
if yes confirm fuel getting to fuel rail
