should i buy a punto are they good cars and cheap to run

thanks guys

iv got a cinq and love its cheap running costs

well i have one its going okay atm (touch wood) but i have heared that they are unreliable. but the saying goes 'the car will treat you , the way you treat the car' :D

Its as reliable/unreliable as a cinq costs a little more to run, slightly higher insurance, uses a bit more petrol, The 55 has an identical engine to a Cinq sporting but its heavier. They are better on the motorway and have a decent boot and space for 4 average adults, although depends if its a mk1 or 2 your getting as to how big the difference will be.

yeah get one, my bro and I have one, and they're awesome (y)
you're gonna get problems with any car, my puntos still going strong at almost 80k, and my mums Y reg beemer had problems and kept cutting out at about 50k miles,

go punto :slayer:

i have spent a few hundred on mine since i got it 2 years ago and i can really feel the difference a good service makes and piece of mind that i know it's not gona stop

i would say punto's if looked after are more reliable than chinqs

and there a much nicer car to drive handle better

so far mine sbeen ok.

been in the family for 3 years and other than servicing, its had a new wiper linakge and thats it.

however, i do get the red steering wheel light on the dash every now and then.

probably needs a proxy alignment see your dealer or the battery voltage may be down depends weather the light happens when driving or first start

well as for things that have actually gone wrong on mine that comes to a grand total of £13.45 drive shaft seals everything alse has been service stuff and tyres

deffinetly reccomend one but have a look around for a good one with full servicing and decent mileso n it:). if you look around and spend some time looking around for a good one youl find a cracker:)

cheap to run
very spaciose as they are high so lots of head room and leg room for a smallish car
sxy looking car in my oppinion
decent boot

mine so far has been reliable and nothing go wrong except my steering failing for 5 minutes twice. *touch wood *it wont happen again.besides that its been great.

look after it and itl look after you:)

ignore all the comments that people say "fiats r unreliable" and all that.

fiats have solid engines and puntos dont rust like the older fiats

keep an eye on the electrics though they are the weakest part on fiats i think. go for a punto anyway...u know you want to:)

you dont want an honest opinion do u?

lol ive spent 1500 quid on it since xmas..

brilliant car...

looks nice

drives welll

drinks the petty

but overall its ok

i love my mk2, its fantastic to drive :)

but with the mk2 puntos they are a very mixed bag, there are a lot of people that would never drive a fiat again, because of the problems they had with their mk2 puntos.
mk1: nice cars also, IMO they are more reliable (for their age anyway) but thats my experience, plus what i have read.

if you fancy a mk2, go for it (y) just dont buy one thats broken, ie steering/airbag light on, etc

One thing is for sure, you will get frustrated abbout a lot of stuff, but the car looks OK, and is cheap to fix, but as any Fiat you may buy a cat in the bag and spend fortune to fix it :D
Just do some search on this forum for what are punto common faults and look at this when buying a car, you may not buy it cause you found something, or make the price more your way cause you noticed something easy and cheap to fix (y)

Oh, and mk3 if you have the money, mk2 if not, mk1 I think is overaged imo

i know avoid v.w.x reg these are the very first and i see these with more problems than the rest

also the very first of the face lift ones gave a bit of gripe but overall the majority of puntos are very good

if you can find a mk1 in really good condition even some service history would be good but not often cos there so old they are the best absolutely cracking cars but there are a few real wrecks out there

but i only ever seen one rusty one lived buy the sea

so i wouldn't worry about checking for any rust would be a waste of time

Punto's are quality cars, look great, fantastic to drive for a good price (y) I have a 2000 fiat punto ELX 16v super good!

I agree with many of the comments saying that they are unreliable.... it's been in the garage a fair few times but well worth the risk
