Panda Fiat Panda 169 Mylife 1.2 - My 3rd Fiat

Introduction

My 3rd Fiat, and current daily, a White Fiat Panda 2012 (on a 61 plate) Mylife.

Bought from Ormond Motors Bury, with 61,800 miles, full service history and 1 owner.

She will be getting a good clean and spruce up and an on-going project to keep her going. Not a car I thought I'd own, but there's a cheeky charm to the 169 Panda.

Here's to happy and safe (and cheap🤞) motoring.
If you're choosing a new filter by comparing it to the one you took off, it's only going to give you certainty if the one you took off is the one it left the factory with.
I never chose it because it was similar to the one I took off? I was beyond that stage and had the oil drained out and wasn't going to reuse the old one.

I picked it because it was a numbers matching oem spec.

Plus bit of a ludicrous comment to make "is the one it left the factory with" back in 2011?

It's had the old oil filter since last January.

Different manufacturers can be slightly different lengths, which fit fine

But fiat fitted two different filters, fitting the wrong one can cause problems

Shop4parts ask for chassis number so you order the right one

Highly tuned Punto's use to swap the small for the larger, but there were a few caveats
Thanks koalar. I'll be keeping a more careful eye out when buying filters for Becky from now on

When I took the old oil filter off I compared it with the new Magneti Marelli one, a few millimetres longer than the old one but not something I'd say would cause damage. The seals were the same size too.

I've used Magnetti Marelli oil filters in pretty much all my cars, even my Evo 6 and have had no issue with them.

On a side note, yous should see the size of oil filter that went on my old Pajero 2.8TD 🤣 length of my forearm 🤣
Love the "yous" Real Scots that!

Hi folks

So, my little Panda has been pretty flawless since I did the crankshaft position sensor, until today.

Drove fine for my 44 mile commute, did a 12hr shift, jumped in and she was as normal in terms of lights on the dash but she just wouldn't fire into life, she was cranking but I think there was no ignition or fuel?

No warning lights on dash
I pressed the fuel cut off under passenger seat but made no difference.
Battery is strong and even had jumper cables at it.

Had to abandon car and take work van home due to time constraints.

Going to take my OBD2 scanner in with me, have a look at earthing cables, fuses etc,

is there anything else I should be looking at?

Thanks guys
Oil, battery on, do they stay on while cranking

Does the pump prime

Does the rev counter bump up from its rest position while cranking

Immobilizer light.

Clocks reseting

Following from my last post about my Panda not starting -

Took it to Planet Performance and they figured out IT WAS the fuel pump. They got that sorted for me ASAP and happy to report I'm back on the road with it!

I'll be looking to DIY change my thermostat as it never reaches the middle mark, only sits 1/4 up, even after an hours drive.

Just for laziness, I'm just going to cut the hose clamp if anyone knows the right size to get? I'll be fitting one of they malakor clips instead of a jubilee clip.

Cheers
I believe it's around 33mm / 1 1/4"

I don't have a panda anymore to double check

Needs to be fairly secure, there can be up to 20 psi in the system

And atmospheric pressure (14psi) trying to push it's way in as it cools down

Since I'd gotten the Panda, it's never sat on the mid way mark on the temp gauge, and with the colder weather, it's hardly rising above the 1/4 mark.

The Mylife trim being a 2011> trim must have a different thermostat, as the one I previously ordered was the normal (no sensor) variant. But turns out mines is like the Fiat 500 variant with the sensor. The plastic pipe where the cabin hose connects too was cracked and sheared when I took the hose off - caught just in time. New one has a metal pipe instead of plastic!

My Fiancé is learning about cars too so I let her have a go doing it with my supervision.

The "my Life" was the last of the 169 and the first of the Pandas to get the VVT 69hp engine. I only know because we looked at one just before we found Becky (2010 60hp). I seem to remember reading at the time that the My Life was severely criticized for the power delivery problems which the first of the 69hp engines were known for.

Last did oil at 65,000, I know a 5000 service is a bit pedantic but I do a lot of miles and need this happy and healthy panda for getting to work and more importantly, home!

Replaced front discs and pads with brembos
Magneti Marelli oil filter
Mannol oil - same as I used last time, pretty cheap and Panda seems to like it.

Also took the opportunity to clean and epoxy paint the front subframe - looking clean underneath!

Here's to a happy new year and another 5000 miles of Panamonium
