Hi there, i have a 2005 climbing with a wierd noise coming from the front right of the engine you can only hear it above 20 and its a very noisy whining, screaching noise. It gets louder as the car accelerates when i bought the car i could only hear a noticable grumble, like if the brakes had rust on them but now that dissapiered and this noise started. Also the sound comes and goes, is there any change its not the front diff or the gearbox dying. Can a throwout bearing cause these symptoms? I changed the gearbox oil recently and didnt see any chunks or glitter. It also changes gears very smooth, only the reverse crunches a little.

Louder or higher frequency?

Rising in line with road speed or engine revs?

Check over the condition of pads and discs, whilst you're there with the wheel up in the air on that corner you can check the wheel bearing .
 
That's helpful and eliminated some things




Did the sound alter after the brakes were changed


Does the sound change when cornering


Is it effected if you push the clutch down

Does the sound change with different gears
I got the car back from the shop, the grinding got quieter, i went and did some green laning washed it afterwarda these noises started. I just checked, it doesnt, the tone changes randomly. It doesnt change if i push the clutch and it doesnt matter which gear im in on my speed changes the noise level.

Great 98% certainly not the clutch, gearbox, transfer box
 
Yep sounds very much like a wheel bearing, 95% certain

There's several ways to confirm

I'd start with the easiest without having to jack the car up

Via juggling the steering wheel left and right

When it's safe to do so

If the sound changes it's almost certainly the bearing

Or If the center hub nut is hotter that side is almost certainly the bearing, easier on steel wheels, but they don't all get hot

Or if you lift the car and spin the wheel and it's notchy, rough, doesn't always show up when it's not loaded though

Or there's play if you grab the wheel at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and push and pull, again not fool proof
