They probably just think that the family man is a little more conservative and if he isn't, well he can always buy the sportier three door variant.

Three door blings, five door mings! :D

Well, here goes, 5 Door not a sport? I've traded my subaru legacy 2.5 4cam lux estate which does 23mpg for the multiwagon jtd. my dealer gave me 25% disc! and wapping trade in value! That was yesterday. Today I had a phone call! I thought oh no! but they informed me that the car allocted to me was not available anymore BUT! all the same latest colour that I wanted was available but it had it all. The full leather cd changer cruse etc. etc. The dogs boll**s for a sum off 50% off!! list! well, what a hard choice, I said let me think about it. That took a nano secound. Iwas then told the car would be ready in 7-10 DAYS! I'm having a hoist fitted in rear for my wheelchair.
I've tried the jtd and have run a small fleet of fiat vans in the past plus a fiat ulltide i mean see, but as a replacement for my beloved subaru, this hand out has realy felt sweet! Watch this space to see if things change or pan-out over the next two weeks. Oh insurace is less than half of my subaru, fuel maybe two thirds less? Anyone towing with one, I'll be pulling 1150kgs breaked and 45kg noes weight but only twice a year. I have a wheelchair friendly caravan for my hols. Sorry to all who hate following them, or is that another topic! But anyone tried towing with the 115bhp 1.9jtd or will I need to ecu chip?

I'm usualy wrong but when I am, I'm usualy right!

Steve, you did better than me there, I'm like , what the hell is he going on about? I thought that I did the ranting round here but this guy has just taken my mantle...............wow!!!!!

I agree Custard, Alfa do this very well with the 147/156, and Mazda have followed suit, but let me pose one question, if the three door motors don't look better, why are manufacturers trying to conceal the fact that their five door models have rear doors? ;)

Mazda's 5door coupe is RX8 and has some Vanquell (i dont know the spell exactly) egines ... preety beasty ... but as i can see Mazda is totaly trying to COPY on Alfa ... the 3 and 6 has same interiour as 147/156 especially the DASH ... totaly stupid to copy alfa ... cause they are one and only

w**kel engine! or Rotary, its one engine of the year apparently.

Frog, your car sounds ace, I'm jealous;) I intend to tow with my JTD, a small trailer at first but eventually a horse box (when I can afford one!), and I forsee no problems, the JTD is only 115bhp, but has 182lb/ft of torque, and that is what matters when towing! it will be much more upto the job than even a 2.0 petrol with more power, cos petrols deliver there power at higher revs, and you ain't exactly gonna want to scream it while towing are you;)

Stilo TURBO!!!!(diesel)

Yes but the w**kel engine, is it reliable, how much too service it and do they do more than 100,000 miles, I doubt it especially as peak power is delivered at 9000 rpm!

Stick to a conventional engine I say! (and three doors) ;)

Yeah, I'm still unconvinced by the rotary engine, it just doesn't seem intuitively reliable, it would seem so easy for the tips of the rotor to break... Also, I don't really get how it can be sealed effectively, so it must be inefficient?

Remember the RO80? this had these problems, and most of them ended up with ford V4 engines, obviously mazda have been developing these motors for some time now, but I remain unconvinced

If they were any good other manufacturers would have picked up on it by now and they'd be in mass production.

Tc- thats the top and bottom of it really! We get people coming into uni and work all the time, with their 'revolutionary' ideas, which have actually been around a long time, and other people have chosen to ignore, usually with good reason;)

Frog, yep, heard a little about that engine, keep checking the fiat website, and asking dealers if they have heard about it, but Fiat are making us wait! Silly really, it should have been in place for the MY04, I really do fancy one for my next car, or maybe an Alfa 147JTD, or even an Alfa GT JTD, depends how money is at the time, doesn't it always;)

Stilo TURBO!!!!(diesel)

go for the GT i'm in loved with it.

ive understood that the w**kel engine is extremly expensive for servicing and stuff but very powerfull and preety thirsty i suppose.

If you're seriously considering the Alfa GT it's being officially launched on the 18th of this month in the UK. Most of the dealers are having a launch event and a test drive weekend of 20th and 21st. If your local Fiat dealer is also an Alfa dealer then I'd make a few enquiries and suggest ;) you'd be extremely interested in purchasing.
The GT is quite a bit more expensive than the equivalent 156 so start saving those pennies now.

By the way the 1.9 JTD in the GT has been tweaked to produce 150 bhp.

As for the rotary (w**kel) engine, I don't know how this has er... come up in these posts but I believe they have a thirst not only for petrol but for oil as well. Mazda recommend the oil level is checked at least every other fill of petrol. I read recently of a potential customer who was put off by the dealer telling him this. I think I read somewhere also that the old twin turbo RX7 needed an engine rebuild at about 75000 miles, whether this applies to the new RX8 I don't know.

Mazda recommend you check the oil ever other fuel stop which in most cars is around the 1000mile mark. Which if you check your Petrol Stilo manual you'll find Fiat also recommend! :p

2003 3 Door Stilo 1.2 Active, Sassy Grey, 5 disc CD Changer, Abarth boot badge, plastic wheel trims - and 42.4mpg average so far. Love it, Oh yes!

I'm sserious mate ... but as i said in lets say 2 years time ... and now since youve told me about the 10extra bhps ... it would be a diesel one thats for sure.the 140bhp has better performance than the 150ts petrol ... so 150 would be just perfect!

"Mazda recommend you check the oil ever other fuel stop which in most cars is around the 1000mile mark."

1000 miles on two tanks of petrol? I'd be lucky to get 500-600 miles in the Abarth and I imagine the RX8 wouldn't be any better.

Most manufacturers say it's acceptable for a car to use 1 litre of oil every thousand miles, it seems that Mazda are saying their car could use more than that.
