Hello all

Having brought a used fiat ducato lwb 120 multijet maxi 63k 2008 6 weeks ago had a few problems to start the main being gear box.Sometimes unable to select first gear.
Went back to dealer 115 miles away for 2 weeks.since collected gear selection is fine, only thing I have noticed is a loud ticking noise from gearbox when idling which stops when clutch pressed and sometimes a slight crunch in 3rd gear when going down through the gears but only at a moderate speed(engine breaking almost).
I have been wondering whether once the gear box was refitted did they refill with the correct amount of gear box oil.Or did they just swap it with another box with a 3rd gear problem as a quick fix?
Or is this just normal gear box clatter for age/mileage,only sure tapping wasn't noticeable before.
Any advice would be really good!

Did you pay them without finding out exactly what was done? They might as well have said they put in a new flux capacitor:p rattling could be lots of things dmf, release bearing, pilot bearing if it has one etc etc.

Hi,I didn't pay for any of the work as it was just within the warranty. At first the dealer told me the box was removed and taken to a box specialist. When asked what had been done to the box he was very vague saying "not sure, something to do with the selector"
I have mentioned the rattling to dealer and also suggested dmf and that the work on the box didn't come with any warranty.Took the van to a local box specialist who had a quick listen/drive and the chap was sure it is not the dmf but probably just normal box clatter.
I'm not convinced??

Take a similar one for a test drive that will tell you if its normal or not. Demand to see the job sheet for your van, call the company that supposedly did the work right there and then before someone from the dealer call them, if they're being that vague/makings things up that sets alarms bells ringing.

Hi,good idea!
Will check out a similar van and compare.
Shall update any news .

my gearbox has always sounded like a bag of nails, it's a 120 multijet. The previous owner had the gearbox rebuilt by a ford main dealer as his missus worked there and he got a 20% labour discount... not a wise choice.

It's got the Iveco engine- the gearbox is constantly in motion even in neutral... After the clutch went I had some very expensive further work done, and it turns out that the Ford butchers had filed some cogs down to get it all back together... so it's a "loose" fit and constantly rattles alarmingly... but it's done a further 100,000 miles so don't panic.
