Technical Fiat Ducato 2003, 2.8 jtd gearbox no breather

Hi everyone.
I’m trying to change the oil in my five speed manual gearbox, but there is no breather. Can I take the reverse sensor off and fill it in there? Or am I missing something. The picture is from top of the gearbox, airfilter removed. Thanks

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the forum.

I also have a 2.8jtd with MLGU gearbox. I see no reason why you should not fill the box through the reversing switch hole. I am sure that this has been done before. An alternative is to fill through the road speed sensor opening, but this carries the risk of the drive gear dropping into the box. To reduce the possibility of this happening, the use of some grease has been recommended..
