Unlikely to be immobiliser if no lights on dash, unless some strange aftermarket anti theft device. Normally lights would come up as normal on dash but with key/immobiliser warning and usually engine would crank but not fire.
I would check wiring , main anf other fuses and earthing points to start.
Plus being a camper/MH some times they have strange split circuit charging systems added that can mess thing up also.:)

I hope that its the engine that turns over and not the van. The fact that the engine turns over, confirms power to the ignition switch. A loose or high resistance connection at one or more the outputs of the ignition switch is a possibility. Also as at @bugsymike has suggested a faulty main earth connection is a possibility.

The main chassis earth point on the x244 is located below the front of the battery, near RH engine mounting. Corrosion can occur inside the flag terminal which makes the connection to chassis. A failure here would result in the starter working, but other items may not.

From the ignition switch there are two relevant outputs, one supplying the ECU, and the other the instrument panel. Check the rear of the ignition switch (remove lower column cover - 4 off No. 2 Pozi head screws which can be fiddly to remove and worse to replace). Look for any signs of looseness or overheating on Pin 1 (orange wire) of 3 way connector, and Pin 2 (light blue wire) of 4 way connector.

I am puzzled as to why two outputs of the ignition switch may have failed simultaneously, unless they have been linked together in previous fix.

Andy did you manage to get this issue resolved ,we've had issues with the factory fitted immobiliser on our 2004 fiat ducato based Chausson Welcome .Had it in Camco garage for a week and started every time so they couldn't diagnose but it's died again today ,and doesn't recognise the key fob. Really need a permanent fix .

Hi Keogg,

Welcome to the forum. Please excuse my copying from a post that I made earlier today.

"When I had problems with the key code system on my x244 2.8jtd, my cure was to clean the connections at the code receiver, which interrogates the key and should receive the correct key code, via a ring aerial round the ignition barrel.

The code receive is located under the lower steering column shroud. It has two connectors. The smaller one is the aerial connector, but I cleaned both. Just removing and replacing the aerial connector may work, but I also used electrical contact cleaner as an extra precaution. I think that this simple fix may be worth trying."

Thank you so much for this ,we do have a diagnostic man booked in but is worth a try .

It worked for me. There is sound reasoning behind the cure, but it may not be a cure all. Please report the resolution of your problem on this thread.

Just to update that the engineer managed ro start the van but has now taken it in for a permanent fix on the ecu as warning light was still showing . Fingers crossed he can resolved this intermittent issue which has been plaguing us all year .Thanks all for your suggestions

A permanent fix on the ECU sounds suspiciously like deleting the immobiliser function from the ECU. This has security and insurance implications.

I think the plan is a replacement and a recode ,there was no way I was going out in that rain today
