hi there my car keeps cutting out and wont start staight back up it seem to mostly happen after its been booted but sometimes just as its slowing down i have put new plugs ,leads distributor cap coil ignition amplifier , alternator tdc sensor can anybody please help me no warning lights come up just cuts out doent seem like fuel starvation also replaced fuel filter engine just dies:mad::mad::mad::mad: anyone got any idears at all

I had a similar thing on a 20vna - it turned out to be the rpm sensor.

The car would run for a while then cut out and wouldnt start for 20mins or so. Dont know much about 16v but could it be a similar issue?

I would suggest getting in touch with a specialist and getting the codes read - that should tell you what you need to know.

yes i replaced this the same thing happens someone suggested the fuel pump as at high speeds they get hot and can stick so i will look at this next i think thanks to all

What about the Mass air flow sensor ? this has been known to cause cutting out , and do you know anyone with a code reader, although the eml light does not come on codes may still be stored, or if the code reader has the active diagnosis function this may help to see what happens just before it dies ? just a thought..

:slayer::slayer::idea::idea::idea::idea::idea::idea::idea::idea:i found the problem at last it was the fuel pump relay :devil::devil::devil::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::devil::devil:

I'm experiencing this problem on my 20v non-turbo... it fires up fine, then after a few minutes of running (enough to drive me somewhere inconvenient) as I slow to traffic lights or something, it stops... will turn over but wont fire... just have to leave it for 40 minutes (nice inconvenient length of time) and then it'll fire up.

One thing i've noticed is, if I turn the ignition on, I can hear the fuel pump priming, but it doesn't stop priming... almost like it's constnantly trying ti buildup pressure and never getting it. This happens all the time...so even when the car starts up normally...

I've tried having a look at the fuel pump, and there's a mesh of wires about there... it's evidently getting power, cos it's priming.

No idea where the pump relay is, or even what to look for...

any help you can offer?

ok, thanks for that Bulldog!
hopefully i'll be able to get it into a garage this week (if only by rolling it down the hill!!)

this is officially my last FIAT I think.. They have brought me bad luck!:bang:

if you've got a jack, axel stands and a few hex keys i'd suggest doing the repalcement yourself, once the car is jacked up it takes about 5 minutes to repalce :)

i've been told you can pick the sensors up for £30 now aswell :)

Ry

EDIT: could be longer if you have an undertray fitted

I noticed this happening at traffic lights and once in the garage. The dashboard, hazard lights etc would come on but not enough power to start car. The light next to the demister button came on and a high pitched sound. Upon re-seating a loose negative terminal on battery the high pitched sound (like a capacitor charging) stopped and car started... strange.
