Technical Fiat Brava 'stuttering'

I have a year 2000 1.2 Brava HSX. I got a mechanic to bypass the electronics due to it draining the battery every night (his idea). It would not start on a cold morning. It also had a new battery. Now when i'm driving the car is 'stuttering' as if it was almost out of petrol, this happens if i'm doing any speed. The temp gauge shot up to max, even thought the temp was OK and the rev needle was possessed with a mind of its own, going up & down like mad, I found out this was a loose earth cable on the clutch and the fluctuations stopped, now I don't know what is causing the 'stuttering'. Does anyone have any suggestions?????????

Taught the litttle history might help!!! It had a new clutch fitted 8 months ago.

from what you say it sounds like your car has a lot of electrical faults. i had some problems with the running of my brava and i took it to a proper auto electricians they found it to be an injector. i would get it checked at an auto electricians, its worth the money just to eliminate whether its an electrical fault or not i think. i wouldnt bother with FIAT garages as they are mostly rubbish and also expensive.

dont like the sound of bypass.that sounds like bodge to me.the origional fault was most prob.the earth fault.reconect as fiat made it.if the battery is diconected for a while the black box resets its self to factoy settings.when reconected it takes about 200 miles to learn how you drive.it can run a little odd during this time.try injector cleaner.the odd flashing of the red light is ok.you may need a new coil pack/or damp start may help early morning starts.

Thanks for the suggestions which I passed on the the mechanic. After I got a full service the car is now running great with no 'stuttering' at all which was mainly down to the 'spark plugs & leads'. The cars not jumping any more on my travels. Thankfully!!!!!!

Was going to say plugs & leads,common on these!
By the way most auto electricians work for dealers now as job is more secure!
