Fiat Brava 1.6 16V Heater smells bad

Winter is coming and my Brava has this little problem, the heater deliver a rather smelly air.
I guess it may need to be cleaned or maybe replaced?

Is there a guide on how to replace the heater matrix? Where is it located?

Do you have air con? It may be that the air con pipes need to be sanitised.

yes I have the air con. I was told it could be the evaporator. Does anyone know how to access it and clean it?

i have the same problem except my 1.6 98 doesnt have air con, i never swithc on the heater coz of the smell !!

maybe its time i do something about it though, anyone got any ideas or a garage job?

Caused by bacteria. I think you can buy an aerosol to spray into the heater air intake.

Is there a pollen filter and is it clean?

Run the heater full hot then full cold aircon then full hot a good few times.
