I hope you don't mind.me.asking. What mileage do you get out of that engine? Town, motorway and combined if you can go that far? I'm buying one next week. Thanks in advance if you reply.

Hi Denesszen,

I've driven it all over the place and I can tell you it will vary quite a bit. The turbocharger hides the fact that it's just a 1.0ltr engine but it likes a drink if you work it hard. I get;

Regular motorway driving (70mph): 42mpg
Old fella motorway driving (60mph): 46mpg
Driving in countryside (I'm in Wales, so it's frequently hilly): 38mpg
Hooning about (a lot of acceleration and throttle): 32mpg

I do quite a lot of mileage on A-roads and motorways, try to be smooth, avoid getting stuck in traffic and I don't boot it except now and then.. and my "Trip B" Average mpg (which covers the last 13,000 miles) says 43mpg.

Thanks so much for your reply. I'm in Wales too. I'm in Cardiff but do motorway once a week. I'm trading in my EcoSport because it's been like driving a bus, it's very heavy. Although the 500X is a little bigger it's much lighter to drive - and doesn't have the ecoboost engine! I've been offered a good PX price so I'm going for it! Thanks again!

I think the 500x will feel great after the EcoSport. They weren't Ford's finest moment and the less said about the EcoBoost engine the better! You'll be pleased to know that depending on engine the Fiat has either a cam chain or a regular, easily changed cambelt. No belts running in oil here!

Some petrol engines can need replacement MultiAir units if they start to misfire (family's 1.0 FireFly had it changed under warranty) but that's pretty much it for engine troubles and it's more like £1000 if it goes, rather than the £7000+ for a new engine when the Ford EcoBoost throws a wobbly.

It bombed in the states, lasted only 5 model years. There was nothing eco about it because it was so heavy. 1.0 liter 3 cylinder turbo barely getting 27 to a gallon city. The naturally aspirated 2.0 you could only get with 4x4 but it struggled because of how heavy the vehicle was. But there was a reason for that weight, to handle the roads in India. Once you drive over there you'll never again complain about pot-holes in the U.K.
Surprisingly the 1.0 was rated to tow 1400 lbs. And good ground clearance even for the front wheel drive.
