Anyone had any problems with a steering knock? So far replaced lower arms, drop links, inner and outer tie rods.
Garage have tried greasing intermediate steering rack (after I found a bulletin from Fiat USA regarding that issue). Garage have also said they've tried replacing column?!?!? But that didn't work either.
I'm at my wit's end. I can feel/hear every bump rattle knock at low speeds/ bumpy surface.

Welcome, what year is your car? my guess is the top strut bearing, these are totally exposed new replacements are enclosed, if it were I given what you've replaced, do the rest, new springs/shocks/top mounts/top mount cup+new covers and bump stops, I bought Lemforder though you can buy much cheaper ones?

Thank you very much. I'll try those next....more ££££'s.

Meant to say it's a '63 1.2 sport. The top mounts are enclosed.

Also I'm not sure I mentioned but you can feel/hear the knock even when stationery, I'm not sure if that makes any difference?

Hi thanks for the reply. All the parts I mentioned were replaced over a 3 week timeline one by one to see if it cured the problem, none of them did. So literally within the last 4 weeks. No it doesn't make any noise when rocked from side to side. Although incidentally the suspension on the left has started sqauking when I go over speed bumps but that's a separate issue and a totally different noise. This knock is stationery when you rock the steering wheel from side to side and also at very low speeds over bumps. Also one thing I didn't mention which could be important is twice when I have came out of a tight left bend (from a retail park) the steering seemed to get stuck to the left and I couldn't straighten it!!! I had to keep driving and keep trying to pull the steering to the right and after about 60 seconds it corrected itself.

No, as unable to move the steering wheel enough to create the noise.

Sorry wrong answer! I just tested it and with the ignition off keys out I can still replicate the knock.

So possibly steering column or manual rack? Need a helper to hold various parts to try and locate the source whilst rocking the steering, your lock up steering is pretty scary, wonder if it was a mechanical issue or electronic control of the pas(electric assistance)?

I know! Luckily it hasn't happened since but then all the parts of the steering have been greased up. I was so certain it was the intermediate steering part as it seems odd what I'm describing fits in with the problem in the USA but the mechanic was adamant it's not that part!?! This is probs beyond mine or my husband's have a go on the drive stuff so might have to try another garage. Thank you for all your help.

Good shout, seems like a good place to investigate at least. Well found that!
